On Sunday, May 5th, Honor Flight Rochester (HFR) welcomes home Mission 65 at the Greater Rochester International Airport.
There are 48 Veterans slated to fly on Mission 65. They include 3 World War II veterans, 9 Korean War veterans, 33 Cold War veterans and 3 Vietnam War veterans. They served in the in U.S. Army (20), U.S. Navy (13), U.S Air Force (9), U.S. Marine Corps (5) and Merchant Marine (1).
“We can never thank our veterans enough for their service and sacrifice. Our tagline is, ‘We Leave No Veteran Behind.’ Of course each veteran must be safe to travel; however, many more than you might guess who are in their eighties and nineties are up for it. Our whirlwind trip lasts only a day and a half and each veteran is well tended to.” said HFR President & CEO Richard Stewart.
This is the second of six missions for 2019. Not including Mission 65, HFR has escorted 3,101 men and women veterans on 64 Missions, all funded through the generous of donations from our community including individuals, organizations, corporations and hundreds of volunteers.
